Calgary Fire Department update on Cranston duplex fire

Late in the evening of Thursday April 6th, Calgary fire crews responded to a residential fire on Cranford Park S.E. Six occupants are now displaced as a result of the two alarm fire which destroyed both halves of the duplex and damaged two neighbouring homes, of which one sustained moderate fire damage.

After fire crews extinguished the fire and conducted a thorough search, one cat was found deceased and a second cat, a grey and black tabby with white paws and named Ozzy, is still missing. It is hoped that Ozzy ran out of the house when the occupants evacuated.

One of the residents escaped with her two dogs just before fire engulfed her home. She was alerted to the fire by a good Samaritan who stopped to help.

Preliminary results of the investigation indicate that the fire started at the back exterior of the duplex. Fire investigators are asking for the public's help. If anybody has photos, video or information, especially prior to CFD arrival on scene, please send them via email to piofire@calgary.ca
