Calgary Fire Department responds to two separate two alarm fires.

Just after 12:00 this afternoon, the Calgary Fire Department responded to a structure fire in 7000 block of 23 Street S.E. On arrival fire crews were met by fire in a detached garage which spread to the upper floor of the house.

Fire crews did a rapid fire attack resulting in quickly bringing the fire under control. No occupants were in the house at the time. The fire department investigator is on scene to establish the origin and cause.

As crews were engaged in fighting this fire a second fire was reported in the 4500 block of MacLeod Trail S.W. The incident commander called a second alarm due to the large volume of smoke and flame.

On arrival crews were met with a fully involved fire on the second floor of a multi unit strip mall. Concerned citizens were assisting with the evacuation of the building as fire crews arrived. Thanks to their brave actions, there were no reported injuries.

The incident commander initiated an aggressive offensive fire attack which again, resulted in quickly bringing the fire under control. The fire department investigator is on scene to investigate the fire’s origin and cause.
