Calgary Fire Department responds to numerous wind related events

Starting at around 3:30 pm, the Calgary Fire Department (CFD) began responding to incidents generated by an extreme wind event that hit the City of Calgary.

At the peak of the call volume, the CFD had in excess of 36 simultaneous calls running with over 40 pieces of apparatus on the road. During the following 3 hours, the Fire Department responded to well over 200 calls from the citizens of Calgary through the 911 system.

The type of calls that the crews encountered included down power lines, damaged roofs, uprooted trees and some structural damage. There were no reported injuries and after the wind subsided the call volume returned to normal.

The Calgary Fire Department would like to remind citizens to stay well away from down power lines and if you discover a non- emergency situation to call 311 for assistance.
