Calgary Fire Department Responds to Garage Fire in Ogden

At approximately 5:05 this morning, the Calgary Fire Department responded to a garage fire in the 8000 block of 24 Street SE.  A large volume of flames was visible en route to the call which prompted a request for a second alarm.  This was done as a precautionary measure to provide additional firefighters and resources to the scene.  Firefighters quickly knocked down the flames on the garage and also a shed across the back alley.  Heat and flames from the garage did cause damage to the home, causing a rear window to blow out and smoke to enter the structure.  Working smoke detectors in the house were in alarm and firefighters were needed to assist the occupants to evacuate the home.  Power lines were also damaged and as a result the five residents will be forced to alternative accommodations.  There were no reported injuries and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
