Calgary Fire Department responds to a fire in Bridgeland

Just before 2 p.m.today, the Calgary Fire Department responded to a meat shop on 4th Street and 1st Avenue N.E. for reports of smoke coming from the business. On arrival, fire crews reported a large volume of smoke coming from the building.  Firefighters forced entry and began an interior fire attack to bring the flames under control.

Once the fire was extinguished, the building was ventilated to allow smoke, heat and toxic gases to clear. Fire crews then searched for hot spots throughout the structure.

Edmonton Trail southbound into the downtown was re-routed for a short period of time however has since reopened.

Fire investigators are on scene to determine the origin and cause of this fire. A fire crew will remain on scene to provide fire watch.
