Calgary Fire Department responds to early morning gas station fire

At approximately 0530 this morning Calgary fire crews were dispatched to a gas station on 16 Ave and 6 St NE. Upon arrival, firefighters encountered large volumes of smoke and flames were coming from the roof and canopy.  Although the fire was contained to the roof, due to its internal make up, fire crews encountered difficulty gaining access to the seat of the fire. This was accomplished by opening up numerous plywood compartments which provide structural integrity to the roof itself. At the present time crews remain on scene checking for any fire extension. There were no injuries reported and the investigation into the origin and cause will commence once the fire is completely extinguished.
