Calgary Fire Department fights two alarm house fire in Aspen Heights

At approximately 6:40 this evening, the Calgary Fire Department was dispatched to a possible house fire in the 200 block of Aspen Ridge Heights SW. While en-route, a large plume of smoke was sighted and a 2nd alarm was immediately called, doubling the number of apparatus and firefighters responding to the incident.

Upon arrival, fire crews were faced with a home under construction which was fully involved with flames, and fire showing from the roof structure of the recently occupied neighboring home. Crews used elevated water streams from aerial ladder trucks to knock down the visible flames from the exterior of both structures. Once the flames were extinguished on the outside of the occupied home, fire attack crews made entry to extinguish the fire in the attic, and conduct a primary search. Due to structural damage, firefighters were unable to enter the house under construction.

The four residents of the occupied home had self evacuated prior to Calgary Fire Department arrival at the scene. Crews remain on scene to extinguish flare ups and will continue fire watch through the night. There were no injuries on scene and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
