Calgary Fire Department fights two alarm blaze in Mahogany

At approximately 4:10 this morning, Calgary fire crews were called to Mahogany View S.E. for a house fire. On arrival, firefighters saw flames and thick black smoke coming from the house. The family of six, two adults and four children who were home sleeping at the time, were alerted to the fire by working smoke alarms and safely evacuated prior to arrival of fire crews.

Firefighters mounted an aggressive interior attack until conditions deteriorated and so crews changed tactics and fought the fire defensively from the exterior. Eight houses surrounding the incident home were evacuated and residents were sheltered in Calgary Transit buses. Neighbouring homes were protected using exposure nozzles to limit fire and heat damage.

No other injuries were reported as a result of this fire however one cat is unaccounted for. Fire investigators are on scene to determine the origin and cause of this fire.
