Calgary Fire Department fights basement fire

This evening just before 11:30, the Calgary Fire Department responded to reports of a structure fire at the 1300 block of 52 Street SE. Initial arriving crews encountered a significant amount of flames from the first floor of a two story multi family condominium complex.

As crews entered, they quickly knocked down flames on the main floor and proceeded to the basement to search for occupants and extinguish where it is believed to have originated. Fire extension also went to the second floor which was quickly dealt with. 

A family of five had self evacuated prior to the Fire Department arrival on scene. Family members were assessed as a precaution by Alberta Health Services. A family of five was evacuated from the adjacent suite as a safety precaution. 

Fire Investigators are on scene to begin investigating the origin and cause of this fire. There were no reported injuries and crews will remain on scene throughout the night to monitor for hot spots.
