Calgary Fire Department extinguishes an early morning condo fire

At approximately 02:45 this morning, the Calgary Fire Department (CFD) responded to reports of a house fire on Hunter Horn Rd NE. The first arriving Apparatus encountered a fully involved deck and fence fire which belonged to an end unit of a condo complex. With the assistance of a passer-by the two occupations of this unit had evacuated their home prior to the CFD arriving. The Engine Company started an aggressive attack at the seat of the fire utilizing their booster tank, which is a supply of water carried on board all Engines. Whilst this was occurring, a hydrant was secured and an evacuation of the adjacent Units took place. In spite of their best efforts, the fire did enter the home through an open window and did extensive damage to the unit. The fire was extinguished with no extension to the adjacent houses. There were neither injuries nor pets involved. At the present time, crews remain on scene and a fire watch is being established. All evacuees except for the two from the house of origin are being allowed back into their homes. The investigation into the cause of the fire is underway.
