Calgary Fire Department battles truck fire within structure

Shortly after 11:00 pm the Calgary Fire Department responded to the 6600 block of 44 Street SE for reports of a building fire.  Upon arrival, crews found a 10 unit industrial strip mall with smoke venting from one of the bays within the structure.  Investigating crews identified a 5 ton van fully engulfed in flames within the second bay from the south end.  Firefighters immediately attacked the fire quickly knocking down the flames.  The entire building was then searched for occupants but thankfully no one was there at the time of the fire.  Firefighters also identified and extinguished a few hot spots while inspecting the roof area for fire extension.  The affected unit suffered severe smoke damage and it is unlikely to resume normal business operations until repairs have been completed. The Van is a total loss.  Adjacent units appeared to suffer minor smoke damage.  Fire Investigators are currently on scene.  Traffic in the area is unaffected at this time.
