Calgary Fire Department battles stubborn insulation fire in NE duplex

Shortly after 11:00 this evening the Calgary Fire Department was called to the 1400 block of Renfrew Dr NE for reports of a building fire. Arriving crews found a 2 story duplex with smoke venting from the soffits at the rear of the structure. Investigating fire crews found a smoldering insulation fire located within the party wall, which separates the 2 residences. Thankfully, the 4 residents of the units were able to safely evacuate prior to CFD’s arrival. There were no reports of injury. Both units sustained minor smoke and structural damage and will require repairs before tenants can return home. The cause of the fire is under investigation. Traffic in the area is unaffected at this time.
