Calgary Fire Department battles basement fire in NW

At 2:50 this afternoon, Calgary fire crews were called to the 2800 block of 23A Street NW for reports of a fire in the basement at that location. On arrival, fire crews saw smoke coming from a basement window. Two residents self evacuated and suffered some minor smoke inhalation. Firefighters searched the basement and found no other people inside. The fire is now out and the house has sustained significant damage to the basement and smoke damage to the rest of the home. It is unknown if there were working smoke alarms in the house. A Calgary Fire Department Fire Investigator is on scene to determine the origin and cause of this fire.
