Calgary Fire Department Assists With Hazardous Materials Incident

This evening, just after 9 pm, the Calgary Fire Department responded in an assistance role to support Alberta health services and the Calgary Police service that were on scene with a sick person in the 600 block of 58 Avenue SW. After initial on scene investigation by Alberta Health Services and Calgary Police Service, 2 members from each service found themselves suffering from a mild reaction to an unidentified irritant and, along with the original patient, were transported to an area hospital as a precaution. The Calgary Fire Department Hazardous Material Response team was tasked with securing the apartment and identifying the irritant. After investigation, the irritant was determined to be a cleaning solution. The area was rendered safe, no other injuries were reported and the personnel transported for care have been released. The condition of the patient is unknown at this time.
