Calgary Fire Department responds to early morning 2 alarm house fire

At approximately 2 am this morning, the Calgary Fire Department responded to the 100 block of Coverton Heights NE following reports of a house fire.

The first arriving Officer was met with a 2 story, single family residence fully engulfed in flames. Due to the extent of the fire and the proximity to neighbouring homes, a second alarm was called for additional staffing and equipment. As the structure had partially collapsed, the decision was made to attack this fire from a defensive position using large master streams of water.

Three victims had self evacuated prior to the Fire Department arrival and were assessed and transported to a local area hospital for assessment. One male victim was treated for serious burns while two females were transported as a precaution. At this time there is one male resident that is unaccounted for.

The neighbouring home sustained heat damage from the fire and currently Fire Investigators have started their investigation into to the cause.  Fire crews will remain on scene checking for hot spots and assisting the investigators. There were no other reported injuries. Plan and practise a home escape plan twice per year with the entire family.
