Calgary fire crews respond to house fire in which one resident is injured

At approximately 2:30 this afternoon, Calgary fire crews were called to Simcrest Manor S.W. for reports of a house fire. The caller to 911 stated that flames were visible from the street through an upstairs window. The occupants of the home were then alerted to the fire by the son of the 911 caller.

One of the occupants then went upstairs in an attempt to extinguish the fire however suffered dangerous smoke inhalation in the process, requiring transport to an area hospital by EMS. Fire crews did hear activated smoke alarms upon entering the home to fight the fire. Firefighters then ensured all hot spots were out and ventilated the residence of all smoke.

Fire damage to the home was limited to the bedroom where the fire originated with some smoke damage throughout the upstairs. A Calgary fire investigator is on scene to determine the exact origin and cause of this fire.
