Calgary fire crews quickly extinguish south east garage fire

Just before 3:00 this afternoon, Wednesday January 9th, 9-1-1 received several calls regarding a building fire at the 6600 block of Penbrooke Drive S.E. Callers reported seeing thick black smoke coming from either a trailer or a garage at the rear of the property.

When fire crews arrived on scene, they encountered a detached single vehicle garage with smoke and flames visible. Firefighters were quickly able to get the fire under control and prevent spread of the fire to any neighbouring structures including the house on the same property. When firefighters completed a search of the building, they did not find any people or pets inside. The garage was filled with personal and household possessions but no vehicle was inside at the time of the fire.

No injuries were reported as a result of the fire. The garage sustained significant damage both to the structure and the contents. Calgary Fire Department Investigators are on scene to determine the exact origin and cause of the fire.
