Calgary fire crews have busy night with multiple fires

Calgary fire crews had a busy night shift, starting off with some smaller fires in the evening and three larger fires in the early morning hours.

Shortly after 12:00 midnight, fire crews were called to the 1200 block of Brightoncrest Common S.E. for multiple reports of a possible explosion and garage fire. Upon arrival at the scene, fire crews encountered a two story house fully involved with fire.  After an aggressive knockdown, the fire was brought under control. Two people had evacuated prior to Calgary Fire Department (CFD) arrival and one occupant was subsequently transported to hospital. Damage to the house is extreme with areas of structural collapse. Neighbouring residences also sustained some damage due to the intense heat.

Shortly after 01:00, firefighters were called to Hubalta Road and 54 Street S.E.for multiple grass fires. Fire crews were on scene for over two hours extinguishing the flames. Some timber at a nearby storage yard sustained fire damage. No injuries were reported and no structures were affected.

At approximately 2:15 in the morning, 9-1-1 received calls regarding a house fire at the 700 block of Coral Springs BV N.E. Upon arrival, fire crews were met with flames and smoke coming from the main and second levels of the single family residence. Four people had evacuated prior to CFD arrival and were transported to hospital by EMS. Tragically, three dogs, one cat and a snake did not survive. There was significant fire and smoke damage throughout the home.

All of these fires are currently under investigation. If members of the public have any photos, video or information regarding any of these fires, please email them to the CFD Public Information Officer at the following address: piofire@calgary.ca
