Shortly before 09:00 this morning, Calgary fire crews were called to the 2100 block of Halifax Crescent N.W. for reports of a house fire. While en route, firefighters could see black smoke and so the fire was immediately upgraded to a second alarm for additional resources.

Fire crews did a quick knockdown of the fire from the outside and then entered the home to continue firefighting efforts. A thorough search found nobody inside the residence.

Two of five residents were home at the time of the fire and self evacuated prior to CFD arrival on scene. A smoke alarm on the main level activated however it in unknown if a smoke alarm in the basement was working.

The basement room where the fire originated sustained significant damage with smoke damage to both levels of the house. No injuries were reported as a result of the fire and a Calgary Fire Department fire investigator is on scene to determine the exact origin and cause of this fire.
