Calgary fire crews fight single alarm fire in Prestwick

Shortly after 3:00 this afternoon, an off duty firefighter and several other citizens called 9-1-1 to report smoke and flames coming from the second floor of a single family home at the 100 block of Prestwick Terrace S.E. Callers where unsure if there was anybody in the house at the time of the fire.

When fire crews arrived, they found heavy fire and extremely hot conditions in one of the upstairs bedrooms of the home. The fire was quickly brought under control and no occupants were found inside. Firefighters did hear activated smoke alarms upon entering the home.

As a result of the fire, there is significant fire damage to the room of origin however because most interior doors in the house were closed, smoke damage was drastically limited.

No injuries have been reported as a result of the this incident. Pet fish in a tank on the main floor appear to have survived the fire. A Calgary Fire Department fire investigator is on scene to determine the exact origin and cause of this fire.
