Calgary Fire Crews Battle Flames and Extreme Cold at Bonavista House Fire

At approximately 7:15 this evening, the Calgary Fire Department responded to reports of a house fire in the 500 block of Lake Moraine Green SE. Fire crews arrived on scene to find smoke and 20 foot flames showing from the rear of the house. Firefighters knocked the flames down from the outside, before making an aggressive interior attack. Interior fire crews quickly knocked down the remaining flames containing most of the damage to the garage roof and rear roof structures on the home of origin. Two occupants were at home at the time the fire broke out, both of whom had safely self-evacuated prior to Calgary Fire Department arrival on scene. A pet reptile was safely removed from the home during firefighting operations. Fire crews were challenged by the extreme cold weather conditions which required all hose lines to maintain water flow to ensure water supplies did not freeze. Heating units were required to thaw frozen hose couplings before apparatus could be released from the call. Crews remain on scene at this time conducting salvage and overhaul operations. There were no reports of injuries at the incident and the cause of fire has not yet been determined.
