Calgary Fire Department deployment to town of Waterton

At the request of Parks Canada through the Alberta Emergency Management Agency, CFD is deploying to support the town of Waterton due to the wildfire.

In addition to deploying an advance party to coordinate with Parks Canada personnel, CFD is also deploying approximately 16 members, two mechanics and three apparatus: two aerials and a sterling engine.

“Our mission scope to date is to provide structural fire protection on a daytime basis.” says Steve Dongworth, Chief, Calgary Fire Department. “This will include spot fires, ember extinguishment and protection of key structures and facilities.”

The length of deployment and total number of firefighters and apparatus needed will depend on Parks Canada and movement of the wildfire.

“We don’t yet know how long our members will be asked to stay,” says Dongworth. “What I can say is that whenever we get a request for assistance, our members are more than willing to step up and help with a response wherever needed.”
