Business customers benefit from latest ePermit upgrades

Calgary – The City of Calgary has expanded its online permitting and inspection services for contractors and home builders with its latest Residential ePermit release. Licensed contractors using ePermit can now apply and pay for a deck Building Permit online, making it faster and easier to obtain a permit without having to visit City Hall. In addition, ePermit users can now manage all their inspections for new home construction projects from a smart phone or tablet using our mobile-friendly site, inspections.calgary.ca.

“Spring is the season Calgarians start thinking about building a deck, and contractors don’t want to be waiting at our counter for a permit when they can be out working”, says Mike van Ham, Coordinator for Applications and Inquiries for The City’s Planning & Development department. “Applying for things like deck and garage Building Permits online is a huge advantage for contractors registered as an ePermit user. They can save themselves a lot of time and effort by applying for permits when it’s convenient for them and their customers,” notes van Ham.

Home builders also benefit from this latest ePermit release with introduction of a new mobile-friendly website to manage their new home construction project inspections. “Builders want to be able to manage all their inspections right at the construction site,” says van Ham. “The new mobile friendly website gives them this ability with enhanced functionality. They can now empower their Site Supervisors to manage all their inspections from a smart phone or tablet, without having to coordinate with head office or 311.”

Over 11,000 calls a year are made to 311 for new home construction inspections, which includes multiple services such as plumbing & gas, electrical, building, and development. Reducing the number of inspection calls to 311 helps reduce call volume and wait times for all Calgarians.

Additional residential improvement permits such as basements and additions are also planned and anticipated to become available to contractors before this Fall. To learn more about Residential ePermit, or to become an ePermit user visit calgary.ca/epermit.

Highlights of today’s ePermit enhancements include:

  • Licensed contractors registered with ePermit can apply and pay for deck Building Permits
  • Home Builders can manage all their inspections in the field using The City’s mobile friendly webpage inspections.calgary.ca
  • ePermit users can now manage up to five credit cards on their profile, and pay for permits faster
