April 2016 assault turned fatal

The Calgary Police Service Homicide Unit is investigating an April 2016 assault that turned fatal.

At approximately 1 a.m., Monday, April 18, 2016, officers were called to a disturbance at the 200 block of 15 Avenue S.W. Upon arrival, officers witnessed an altercation occurring amongst a group of individuals. The individuals were uncooperative and refused to provide statements.

An hour later, officers were called to the Sheldon Chumir Health Centre, located at the 1200 block of 4 Street S.W., in relation to a stabbing victim. It was determined the victim had walked from the incident that occurred on 15 Ave. S.W., to the Sheldon Chumir Health Centre.

The victim, Hebern Donald MARSDEN, 49, remained in hospital in critical condition where he succumbed to his injuries on Friday, July 1, 2016.

The Homicide Unit has been actively pursuing this occurrence using several investigative strategies. It is believed this was a targeted incident and that there is no risk to public safety.
